With the “Sycamore” taking place a day after the clocks went forward, and retaining the 20:00 start time, the crews all took full advantage of the opportunity to sample the seldom used Monmouthshire lanes around the Walterstone, Pontrilas, Garway and Grosmont area, and they had a great evenings sport.
The eventual winners were James & Lisa, who arrived back within seconds of earning a time penalty. There was then a mad rush through the door, as Jamie and Gemma ran in and incurred a 2 minute lateness penalty, whilst their respective older drivers strolled in a few minutes later.
Time passed by, and with still no sign of the two remaining crews, we all began to wonder where they were; and then Craig’s phone rang. It was his brother, who had lost track of time, was lost, and hadn’t got a clue where they were, but was making his way back – but from where? Then it was James on the ‘phone to dad and Peter, they did know where they were, and would be back in a few minutes.
Both crews duly arrived ok, sounding as though they had a good tour of the lanes, but most importantly, they had enjoyed it – and that is what it is all about!
Probably the most frustrated person on the night was Craig, who would have taken part, but was recovering from an operation, and was supporting his brother and club members alike. No doubt we’ll see him next time, and I’m sure that he is a future winner.
